Change is Good

Saturday, June 17th, 2006

Okay, I think it’s about time for (yet) another new layout. It will probably take me a month or so to really get into it because these other projects are taking up a lot of my time but hopefully by the end of July, I’ll have a better, cleaner, more functional site.

I Went To School With a Pornstar

Tuesday, June 13th, 2006

I’m not sure why I find this so fascinating but I’ll say it anyway: “I went to school with a pornstar!” Yes, I remember when she would sing for the talent shows in junior high. Hell, I was even in choir with her (…I’m pretty sure she was in choir). We also went to high school together. Well, as my friend Jesse told me, the girl who was voted most likely in highschool to become a pornstar actually became a pornstar. And we’re not just talking about an I-found-some-crazy-old-guy-to-take-a-few-dozen-pictures-of-me,-post-them-on-
a-website,-and-charge-$30-bucks-a-month- for-them. No, miss Brea Bennett (that’s her stage name but I know her real name!), just signed a contract with Jenna Jameson (only the biggest name in porn—not that I know—I’ve just heard…). Apparently, on PlayboyTV, Jenna hosts a show called, “Jenna’s American Sex Star.” It’s kind of like American Idol, only… they want to be pornstars. You can watch the winning clip here (though I warn you, it is Playboy and you do see it all). But her victory speech is priceless nonetheless.

Oh yeah, she has a myspace, too. Fancy that!

Drum Tracking

Sunday, June 11th, 2006

Tonight, Gaumont and me headed over to Mike Decamp’s place to listen to his progress on adding REAL (not MIDI) drums to our Conan Musical. Mike plays drums for his band, Idle Red, and we thought it would really help “fill out” the sound with the rest of the MIDI. With real drums and real people singing, the end product should sound fairly real. But that’s for you to decide. I already appreciate MIDI. Gaumont wanted a good candid for his myspace. By the way, did I mention he will be playing the Masturbating Bear? We start rehearsals with the small cast choir Monday night and continue all week. If all goes well, we are set to record Saturday. You can bet I’ll probably put up a teaser on my myspace or the Conan musical website or something. Not too much though. Don’t want to give it all away already ;-).

Conan: Draft 4

Tuesday, June 6th, 2006

We’re making progress (which is always good). We’ve finished the fourth draft of our Conan script complete with major song rewrites. I’ve still got some lines to change/add with Gaumont but for the most part, the script is solid. The last two songs should be finished by the end of the week so we can get our choir/cast together next week and record. There’s still a ton of details to work out and sets to build but when it’s all said and done, it should be pretty cool. All those script rewrites made me thirsty so I met up with Linh and we got smoothies from the Juice Spot (where Gaumont happens to work). Step over Jamba Juice, there’s a new smoothie shop in town! One of the best smoothies I have ever had. We had a little time before Linh had to head off to work so we stopped by Tempe Town Lake and hung out by that dry, 115 degree, ocean breeze! Mmm ‘mm! With the wind factor, it was probably more like 130 degrees hitting our cheeks. You’d think the water would have cooled it a little bit. But then again, this is Arizona. And across the Lake, you can see some beautiful lakeside office buildings and off to the left, a small 8-story luxury condo building. Linh is crazy about it but I don’t think either us will be living in anything that nice anytime soon.I had played all weekend and Dan soon got on my case to make those CD and DVD… cases. I did the artwork last night and we spent all day today printing about 100 of them. What a day. That’s still only about 2/3 of the order we have to fill. Tomorrow will probably be a very similiar day. But once this project is done, woohoo!
