Shout Out
Monday, January 22nd, 2007The Original Turkey

School started back this week which means inevitably, I’ll have some time on campus to kill. This week, I stopped by the ASU music library (a frightening place…. *shivers*) and did a little research for my piece Turkey in the Straw. As I’ve learned from other research (and good ol’ Wikipedia), the tune was originally set to a minstrel comic song called Zip Coon around 1834. Ironically, the early Turkey in the Straw version (1905) is much more racist than the Zip Coon version (in my opinion, at least). So this has been my inspiration… not the racist part (”Oh, how I know a nigga do love turkey! Mmm!!”)…. the comic part….. not that racism is funny….. unless you’re singing about it in Avenue Q…… then it’s pretty funny.A Few Thoughts on 24
Tuesday, January 16th, 20071. Jack Bauer kicks ass!
2. Good job on giving Jack a fatal flaw these first few episodes (not trusting himself). Will we see more personal conflict impacting his judgement?
3. Who hired this cutie to help run CTU??? NICE! Too bad she’s a scientologist.
4. Kal Penn???? A terrorist?????? Ahmed “Kumar” Amar? BRILLIANT!!!
I don’t want to spoil it for anyone, but let’s just say that he finally made it to that White Castle in the clouds… *tear*
… as you can tell, I’ve had a very productive week.
I Passed My Bar Exam!
Monday, January 8th, 2007
Well, bartending exam but that’s still just as cool! For the past two weeks, Linh and I have been enrolled in a 40 hour bartending course and had our final and practical exam this morning and PASSED! That’s right, now we are state-certified to make cream drinks, highballs, martinis, tall drinks, shooters, 2-oz cocktails, after dinner drinks, beer, and wine! Drink your heart out John Mackey
