Okay, I guess it’s not really a “conventional musical”. In fact, it’s a helluva lot cooler! Every now and again I’ll search through the old records for sale at the local thrift store or used bookstore, usually for something odd, sometimes for quirkey, failed musicals that never made it past LP. Today, my eye caught this incredibly popular (as I’ve come to find out) 1970s rock opera retelling the classic War of the Worlds story complete with narration by the infamous Richard Burton, heavy rock beats, screamin’ electric guitar solos, synthesized melodies, electronic sound fx, and (in the staged concert) a 30 foot mechanical alien! Well worth the couple of bucks I paid for it. Really makes me want to write a rock opera…
